Trail race registration: Enter for $5

If you’ve been hoping to get off the couch and do a race, you may want to sign up for the Run with the Beavers, a 5 or 10 mile trail race in Chepachet, R.I. (about 70 miles from Boston) on July 14. Sure, a race of any mileage is intimidating for the uninitiated. But you have months to get and shape – and the online entry fee is only $5 – a real bargain. True, this fee doesn’t include a race t-shirt, but even those – at $10 – are pretty cheap.

Keep in mind that trail races offer varied and sometimes difficult terrain. This particular race involves running in the woods, on pine-needled paths, on rocky trails, across a plank bridge, around a pond and up hills. 

Sounds like fun.

The kicker? The $5 deal is good for only one hour beginning on January 20 at noon and ending at noon. 

After the promo, prices go up as face day approaches. Still $20 day of race is a relative steal!
