There’s no getting around it: downhill skiing is expensive. Once you take into account the skis, the ski boots, the helmet and the goggles, and the fashionable parka and pants, you’ve already invested hundreds if not more – and you haven’t even bought the lift tickets yet. There are ways to save on lift tickets through websites that let you buy discounted tickets at participating resorts and ski areas. Keep in mind, these discounts often require advanced purchase and may not include weekends and holiday periods. Plus, supply of tickets is often limited. Still, a deal is a deal and if your schedule allows flexibility, go for it.
Here are three sites where double-digit discounts are available at ski resorts in New England and beyond.
Liftopia. This site offers tons of discount deals searchable by region and date. Availability is limited (the number of available deals and amount of discounts are clearly listed), and advance purchase is required. There are also lodging deals listed at select resorts. An added bonus of this site: click on the deal links to get information about the ski areas including trail maps, conditions and available amenities.
No Boundaries. This site offers discounts at a handful of New England ski areas including Cannon in New Hampshire and Okemo in Vermont. Online purchase for specific Saturdays in advance is required with ticket pickup at the mountain. Skiers and riders seeking these discounts need to become a member which is free – just enter your name and email address to sign up.
GetSkiTickets. This site promises ski deals both deep and steep. The site is searchable by state with the number of available deals listed. If you’re interested in specific ski areas that have no deals available, you can register to get notified should any deals become available. Quantities are limited but discounts can be significant.
These sites aren’t your only options.
Other Ways to Save
If you have a specific ski area in mind, check the website to see if discounts are available for online advanced purchases. Destination resorts like Cranmore Mountain in New Hampshire and Stowe in Vermont offer significant discounts (30% and up) when skiers buy tickets online in advance. Local areas may also offer nominal discounts when tickets are purchased online.
REI offers members discounted lift tickets at select resorts. Recent REI ski ticket offers included 22% off Wachusett good for any day. A lifetime REI membership is $20 – an investment that can pay for itself with a few lift ticket purchases.
