Celebrate the writings, film, and food of beautiful Iceland as Taste of Iceland returns to Boston March 16-20.
There are four FREE Taste of Iceland events over the weekend:
- Iceland Naturally’s FREE Reykjavik Calling concert returns to Beantown, celebrating the vibrant music of Iceland and Boston at The Middle East. The concert features Icelandic artists Fufanu and Mammut, who won best album of the year and best song of the year at the 2014 Icelandic Music Awards. The Dirty Dotty’s, Boston’s favorite pop-motown band will share the stage with Mammut and Fufanu. Admission to the free concert is granted on a first-come, first-served basis, so come early. Doors open at 8:00 pm, concert starts at 9:00 pm.
- An short film festival at the Brattle Theater on March 19th at 12:00 to 2:00 pm. The festival includes 6 short films from the Icelandic film industry’s premier festival, Stockfish. The showing is FREE, on a first come, first serve basis.
- There will also be a literary discussion at WBUR, 890 Commonwealth Avenue on March 16th, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Reykjavik-based author and editor Eliza Reid, Reid will talk on what makes Iceland so inspirational for lovers of the written word. Attendees can learn about and discuss novels from highly-acclaimed Icelandic authors, as well as enjoy Icelandic food and drink at WBUR’s Events Room.
- ART: The Icelandic Art Center Presents: Iceland’s Thriving Contemporary Visual Arts Scene. Björg Stefánsdóttir, director of the Icelandic Art Center, will be on hand for a discussion on Icelandic visual arts. The discussion is on March 17, at 5:30 pm at The Kingston Gallery at SoWa, 450 Harrison Avenue.
In addition, if you’d like to sample some authentic Icelandic food, Icelandic chef Siggi Helga from Grillið restaurant will fly to Boston to collaborate with American chef Steve Brady of The Merchant for $68 from March 17-20. Signature Reyka Vodka and Brennivin cocktails will be served.
