The Boston Red Sox have among the most loyal fanbases around. Through thick and thin over the decades, Red Sox Nation has rallied around the team. During the season, Fenway Park is regularly packed to the rafters with fans willing to shell out more than $100 for a ticket and some refreshments. That means a family of four can take in a game and indulge in a few snacks and can easily expect to pay $500 or more for the experience.
Luckily, there are other pro baseball options available in the Boston area where a family can take in a game while enjoying hot dogs and popcorn – without the need to take out a second mortgage. And three such teams – all that play at quaint stadiums within a two-hour drive of Fenway Park – are minor league affiliates of the Red Sox. So there’s a good chance that some of the players you can see up close and personal and on the cheap this season will be playing in the big leagues next season or beyond. And minor league ballparks often host a bevy of fun events to add entertainment to the proceedings on the field. Theme nights, bobble head giveaways, fireworks and concerts are frequent promotions offered throughout the season.

The Pawtucket Red Sox, more affectionately known as the PawSox, are one level below the Red Sox and often a rehab stop for major leaguers who are recovering from injuries. McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island – less than one hour from Fenway Park – is where the PawSox go head to head with rivals in the International League. As a Triple-A team, the PawSox schedule runs from the beginning of April to the beginning of September. During home games for the 2018 season, the PawSox will have giveaways every Friday night and fireworks every Saturday night.
